
A graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, Christopher Saunders is one of the finest tenors of his generation and an outstanding interpreter of the baroque and classical repertoire. He has sung leading roles for some of the most prestigious opera houses including English National Opera, Glyndebourne Festival Opera, Opera North and the Covent Garden Festival. Christopher has sung major works at the Barbican Hall, Sadler's Wells and the Wigmore Hall. A versatile artist, he has performed a lead role on London's West End and has sung Handel's Messiah for the Prince of Wales.
Christopher has a broad repertoire ranging from lieder and art song to opera, operetta and oratorio. Christopher has also broadcast opera on the BBC and has appeared on Friday Night is Music Night for BBC radio.
Since returning to Australia, Christopher has performed with the Victorian Opera and this year will sing with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, the Auckland Philharmonic, the Perth Collegium the Queensland Pops Orchestra, the Sydney Philharmonia, the Port Fairy Festival and performances at the Sydney Recital Hall and the Melbourne Recital Centre.
In 2008 Christopher released the recording 'Songs of Travel' with the music of Vaughan Williams, Britten and Gurney. Recent and upcoming performances include: Messiah, Mass in B minor and St. John Passion at the Sydney Opera House with the Sydney Philharmonia and in Lieder recitals around Australia. This year Christopher is recording more Schubert lieder and songs by Ivor Gurney.
